Dutch actress/director Halina Reijn made a big splash for her English-language feature debut last year with A24‘s anti-slasher “Bodies Bodies Bodies.” Not everyone loved the movie (this writer didn’t), but once A24 gets an interest in an artist, loads of moviegoers get an interest, too. So, what’s next for Reijn? Reports say that it’s an erotic thriller for A24 called “Babygirl,” about a career woman in her forties that gets sexually involved with a 21-year-old intern.
That sounds delightfully scandalous, but who’s attached to star in the film? None other than Nicole Kidman; so, if “Babygirl” didn’t sound enticing before, it probably does now. No other plot or casting details are floating around at the moment, but isn’t Kidman’s name enough? Add “Babygirl” to Kidman’s other upcoming projects, such as Mimi Cave‘s “Holland, Michigan,” which is currently in production, as well as Taylor Sheridan‘s CIA drama “Lioness.” Kidman also has “Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom” and “A Family Affair” on deck, too.
World Of Reel says that production for “Babygirl” kicks off in August, so that probably means the film will hit theaters sometime next year. Before then, there’s plenty of other A24 fare to satiate moviegoers’ appetites. Kelly Reichardt‘s “Showing Up” finally hits US theaters next month, as does Ari Aster‘s “Beau Is Afraid.” Also arriving from A24 this year: Nicole Holofcener‘s “You Hurt My Feelings,” British mystery thriller “Medusa Deluxe,” and, with any luck, Ti West‘s send-off to his recent horror movie trilogy, “MaXXXine.”
Expect more news about “Babygirl” soon as it approaches its reported production start date.
